Well, we’re off to a good start in the WCHS art department! It looks like most of our students are excited to be taking art classes, and the creativity has started to flow. We don’t have a lot of announcements at the moment, but stay tuned for more info about the National Art Honor Society. Many people expressed interest in joining at the clubs fair, and Miss Pope will be finalizing a list of new members, as well as people who are interested in becoming officers.
The drawing classes started off with some abstract line drawings to work on line control, and they look great! Even though I have my students do this project every year, I’m always amazed at how many variations and unique differences appear.
We’ve also been working on contour line drawing, and the students were instructed to draw their hand holding an object. I was impressed by the results, because the hand is a very difficult subject to draw.
The painting classes have also been doing some great work, especially considering the fact that many of these students have never painted before. Their first assignment was a little watercolor landscape that had to incorporate blotting and wax resist, and even though they were all working with the same general composition, they each added their own creative touches.
That’s all for now! More updates to come soon.
